According to one theory, the planet earth was created from a cloud of dust and gas nearly 5 billon years ago, along with the other planets in our solar system. But the earth evolved differently from the other planets so that there is life on it. Different kinds of plants and animals together with human beings have inhabited the earth for centuries.
Since the time of its birth the earth has been changing its surface. Rocks and mountains formed and the weather began to grin them down. Big continents formed and then broke into smaller parts because of the power inside the earth. This power is still working today. It builds and breaks mountains, and makes the earthquakes and eruptions. The investigation of this power results a very interesting science called geology.
